Tourism Revenue of Hainan Province Dramatically Dropped

Tourism revenue in south China's Hainan Province dropped by 67.5 percent in May over the same period last year, according to figures from the local statistics bureau. Although no cases of SARS were recorded in the island province, the country's most popular tourist destination, was severely affected by the disease situation in the country's other provinces, especially in the field of tourism. By the end of May, the province's 150 travel agencies, more than 140 hotels, 1,447 travel buses and about 60,000 tour guides had suspended operations. The average occupancy rate of the province's hotels had reduced to 21.9 percent from 53.4 percent at the same time last year.
