InterCon adds nine hotels in China

InterContinental Hotels Group continues to expand its network in China, signing nine hotel contracts including Express, a Holiday Inn brand. This marks Express' introduction in China.

Managing director, Asia Pacific, Patrick Imbardelli said, The Chinese market is ready for Express by Holiday Inn. With the strong economic outlook, the projected increase in domestic travel and in the number of independent travellers coming into China, Express by Holiday Inn will enable us to fully tap into this burgeoning segment.

The group plans to expand its brand distribution network across China from 45 hotels to more than 80 by year 2006.

With our current 45 hotels, we already have the widest distribution network in China. The new deals are part of our sustained expansion plan and will help ensure that our leadership position in China remains secure, said Imbardelli.

The new hotels will be located in Beijing, Changshu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Xian, and Zhengzhou.

Two of the nine new hotels will be under the Express by Holiday Inn brand. And of the other new hotels being added to the Group's portfolio, one is an InterContinental Hotel, three are Holiday Inn Hotels and three are Crowne Plaza Hotels.
